The High Frequency Sound That Only Teens Can Hear

You may have heard about the so called “teen deterrent.” There is a high frequency sound that only young people under the age of 25 can hear. It’s called presbycusis and it is defined as an age-related hearing loss.

Recently, the ability of young people to hear high frequency tones that are inaudible to others over 25 or so has led to the development of technologies to stop younger people from loitering and the development of a cell phone ringtone called Teen Buzz.

While presbycusis is a normal part of growing older, it is a strong reminder that even though you may not notice it, your hearing is aging with you and it is important to take steps to curb your hearing loss.
